It was a sudden surprise when Ellie's mother showed up, and demanded that Ellie stay with her for the weekend. She recently met a new guy and wanted to show off Ellie. Joel was nervous, but she did have visiting rights with a few weekends when she was able to. But this was the first time Ellie would be taken out of the household while in the custody of her mother. And honestly, Joel was scared.
Surely it would be okay. Joel would keep updated with her throughout the weekend, but he was still stressed the entire time Ellie was away in the custody of her mother. Joel hated that Ellie was like a toy to her, showing her off to her new friends only to refuse to actually be in her life. It was hard. But, Joel would get a weekend to himself for the first time since Ellie was born.
